Right now I'm enjoying a vacation on Vancouver Island. It's my first time here and hopefully not my last. Unfortunately I've only got a few days left but I've had a lot of fun exploring so far. Once I get home I'll upload a new gallery of photos from the trip. A trip which has included ferry rides, seals, a very brief attempt at fishing for salmon on the ocean with a fresh crab consolation, baby lambs, shooting the Milky Way, and lots of sea food.
And rain. I cannot forget the rain. It's rained every day since I've been here! In any other situation I would be lamenting the absence of sun but the most important thing for me when visiting a new place is authenticity. It's why when in Mexico I ventured out on foot off the beaten path into the old neighbourhoods that don't see tourists. I'm not interested in gloss, sheen, or perfection, I just want reality. And that is exactly what I'm getting here. In fact, as I sit here on the deck drinking my coffee and playing fetch with Artie, we are enjoying being outside with only a light mist falling upon us.
One thing that's surprised me photography wise being here is that I love shooting at marinas. I've been to a few on the island and have had to pull myself away each time because you won't find many of those in Alberta. The combination of the water, the bright whites and accented colours of the boats, and the chaotic lines of all the masts filling the sky pleases my eye so much I could spend hours taking pictures of them all.
I look forward to sharing the photos of this trip and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
